Google Talks Into Buying YouTube For $1.6 Billion!

http://www.startribune.com/154/story/726530.html

YouTube is an ever growing video sharing webpage which allows users to publish videos on the internet and allow the rest of the nation view them. The up and coming 'popular' site had just celebrated it anniversary and is said to be 'the must-have prize for media and technology giants'!

Google is still indecisive about buying YouTube for $1.6 billion. 'While the negotiations are in the early stages, and might fall apart, the size of Google's offer could push YouTube closer to a deal.' This suggests that YouTube might just give in. Other companies have also stated their interest in buying YouTube and could 'swoop in with higher offers.' For example Microsoft, Yahoo, Viacom and News Corp.
'The frenzied hunt to acquire the next hot Internet
property -- MySpace last year and now YouTube -- has
become reminiscent of the first Internet boom,
as companies bid up prices of sites whose
ability to generate profits has been the
subject of much debate'
Alomost without being aware of it YouTube has grown in the sharing of videos and empowered wannabe moviemakers around the world. The fact that their are lots of unauthorised posting and sharing of videos, makes the site face legal posibilities.
If YouTube agrees to a deal it would be out of the ordinary. This is suggested because Murdoch is noway going to agree.
My Personal View!
i think that Hurley and Steve Chen shouldn't sell YouTube, this is because it brings in a lot of finance for them. this is because it is a long term investment, we see that it will bring in more profit in a few years time as there are not any other website like this which supplies its viewers with quick service and an efficient web page that allows video downloading for free and legal. on the other hand to the public and media literates, this may be seen as a bad thing as the hegenomy suggests that Rupert Murdoch has alot of power over society as he at the moment owns Sky, Google, and other assosiations. therefore he does not need to own any more power in the media.
